Quality Control Checklist for Private Label EDC Products

A private label EDC quality control checklist turns a product brief into repeatable acceptance decisions. It tells the factory what to control, the inspector what to examine, and the brand what evidence is needed before shipment. A generic “check quality” instruction cannot do that.

Build From the Approved Product

Start with the latest specification, drawings, bill of materials, color references, packaging artwork, and signed sample. Resolve conflicts before inspection. Define Defects Before Inspection

Classify issues by impact on safety, compliance, function, saleability, and appearance. Use product-specific examples. A burr on a hand-contact edge, a mark on a hidden surface, and the wrong barcode have different consequences.

Create a photo defect library when appearance matters. Define viewing distance, lighting, inspection time, and cosmetic surfaces. This reduces subjective decisions and makes feedback actionable.

Make Functional Tests Repeatable

“Works normally” is not a method. Describe operation, setup, repetitions where justified, and what passes. A pen plan might cover assembly, refill compatibility, deployment, and clip behavior. A pry tool plan might cover geometry, edges, attachment, and accessory functions. A whistle needs controlled airflow and sound conditions.

Publish only claims supported by suitable evidence. Market-specific compliance, labeling, and documentation should also be identified by the brand.

Inspect Packaging as Part of the Product

Private-label failures often occur after the metal part is complete. Verify artwork revision, spelling, barcode content, color, inserts, accessories, protection, and carton identification. Review a complete pack-out early enough to correct mistakes before the entire lot is packed.

Use Clear Sampling and Release Rules

The plan should reflect risk, process history, lot size, contract requirements, and customer expectations. Define sample selection, destructive tests, defect counting, and who can approve deviations. Do not invent the acceptance rule after finding a problem.

Who should create the checklist?

The brand and manufacturer should build it together: the brand owns product intent and market needs; the manufacturer contributes process knowledge.

Is an approved sample enough?

No. It supports appearance and feel, but drawings, measurable requirements, packaging files, methods, and defect definitions are still needed.

Should inspection happen only before shipment?

No. Incoming, in-process, pre-pack, and final checks may all be appropriate. Earlier controls prevent repeated defects.
